The splendid new forum, created by Emperor L. Septimius Severus in 200 AD, was one of the most outstanding of the Empire. Seen here looking North across the colonnaded street, it measures around 300 by 200 metres

and was surrounded by colonnades with arches springing directly from the column capitals.

At the south west end remains the podium of a Temple, the Genius of Severus.
